Abstract
Nepal’s community school system has made significant contributions to expanding access to education, promoting social inclusion, encouraging local participation, and fostering civic development. However, community schools continue to face challenges related to teacher management, physical infrastructure, the effective use of technology, student attendance, parental involvement, and the improvement of learning outcomes. This study analyzes the historical development, physical infrastructure, educational practices, child-friendly environment, inclusive education, implementation of the school as a zone of peace, roles of stakeholders, use of technology, achievements, challenges, and prospects for future improvement at Shree Yesho Brahma Secondary School, located in Bahunbesi, Besisahar Municipality–3, Lamjung District, Nepal.
The study is primarily based on a descriptive case study approach involving documentary analysis of the school’s available archival materials and institutional records. Established in 2018 B.S. (1961/62 A.D.), the school initially operated with limited physical resources and has since expanded its educational provision up to Grade 10. The school has developed facilities such as a library, science laboratory, computer laboratory, internet access, projectors, smart boards, drinking water, and toilets. It has also implemented various programs, including scholarships, parent–school interactions, individual student records, child-friendly initiatives, environmental sanitation, and tree plantation activities.
Nevertheless, the shortage of teachers at different educational levels and in specific subject areas, teachers’ limited information and communication technology (ICT) competencies, irregular student attendance, inadequate parental participation, limited resources, and weaknesses in the monitoring system remain major challenges. The study concludes that future school improvement requires effective teacher management, continuous professional development, evidence-based analysis of learning outcomes, digital and experiential teaching practices, stronger parent–school collaboration, improved student attendance, strengthened physical infrastructure, and effective coordination with the local government.
